our story

Food Punks is one of Tweeddale Youth Action’s income generating social enterprises and started as an initiative to teach simple cookery skills that would help young people learn how to cook local fresh food.

We want to give young people the opportunity to realise their potential, developing confidence and a sense of purpose by helping to grow the Food Punks empire. With the valuable experience we can provide, allowing them to see possibilities for their future, in employment, further education or entrepreneurship.

Using simple effective techniques in a respectful environment, we can develop creativity, work ethic and skills. Building an understanding of the importance of cohesion and teamwork will be fundamental to our success.

Food Punks will be recognised as a force to be reckoned with! We will develop our team on a daily basis, and encourage the value of that in it’s own right.

In the future, it would be great if we could offer courses or apprenticeships, so that effort and integrity may be rewarded with qualifications.

We want to be judged on our ability to deliver excellent food and service.

Our customers also love that all profit generated goes back into youth work and services for our young people. We love to see our young people working as a tight professional unit, showcasing the best that they can be and challenging the sometimes negative stereotypes of young people. We want to continue building upon this sustainable social enterprise which continues to support young people’s skill development and confidence.

We contracted Food Punks to provide catering on site for a big party we had at home last year. Apart from the high quality of the food Dave and his team produced from scratch in our house, it was great to see the youngsters applying themselves with pride in the making and serving of delicious food. Well done Dave, you are amazing at what you do!
